‘Overwatch 2’ to be Released on Steam on August 10th

Blizzard has revealed its plans to release some of its PC games on Steam for the very first time. The company made the announcement today, stating that Overwatch 2 will be the first title to make its way to the platform on August 10th. However, Blizzard did not provide any specific information regarding other games that may follow suit.

Blizzard president Mike Ybarra said in a press release that Battle.net remains a priority for them, but “we’ve heard players want to choose our Steam game selection.” The company would like to remind users that while Overwatch 2 is available on Steam, it still requires you to have a Battle.net account in order to play the game and access features such as cross-platform play. Players can also access their Steam friends list and invite friends to Steam. Blizzard didn’t announce Steam Deck support, though that won’t stop players from trying to get the game running on it.

Along with Steam support, Overwatch 2 is getting a big update on the same day. Players can look forward to PvE missions, a new PvP mode, and a new hero. Blizzard calls it Overwatch 2: Invasion and says it’s a “big opportunity for new players.”

Blizzard has not announced what or when other titles will be coming to Steam, noting that it will share information “when the time is right.” Those looking to download the game on Steam can add it to their wishlist now and you’ll be notified when the game launches on the 10th. August.
